Return through governance requires policy driven instrumentation

Data Governance is primarily a set of policies and procedures for the purpose of ensuring consistent and high quality data usage across the enterprise that conforms to firm standards. Establishing these standards, policies, and procedures is typically managed by a Data Governing Council consisting of Data Stewards and Data Custodians that is managed by the Chief Data Officer. This group is measured based on data architecture alignment, data integrity, data usability, and policy compliance. Enabling technologies are used to support Data Governance goals and objectives, including master data management, data quality tools, and metadata management repositories.

Problem Statement
Frequently, requests for information from Finance, Compliance, or Regulatory Reporting require a "top-of-the-house" type of view, spanning multiple organizations and systems across the enterprise. For many organizations, this means that dozens of spreadsheets (or more) are created and an army of analysts are employed to extract, rationalize, and reconcile data from different sources.

Similarly, the request from Finance and Compliance for information, while seemingly identical, may in fact be quite different, depending on the assumed definition of business terms. Even the simplest requests – give me a list of a client transactions for yesterday – can be a challenge. Does the requestor mean yesterday's Trade Date or Settlement Date? Are they asking for Cash Transactions and Journals as well?
